The Top Places to Elope In Savannah

The Top Locations to Elope In Savannah

Are you looking to elope in Savannah, Ga? Well, that’s a great choice! Savannah is one of the top cities in the South to elope and we welcome you with open arms. Savannah was settled in 1733 and is known as America’s “first planned city.” Oglethorpe, Savannah’s founder, laid out the city in a grid system because it allowed for wide streets. With 22 different squares scattered around the downtown area. I’ve shot in almost all of them and each are unique + gorgeous in their own way!

The best part about elopements is that they can be as small or large as you want them! The squares are the most popular elopement location options because if you have less than 50 guests, it’s free! If you have 50 guests or more, want chairs set up, and an officer to make sure the square is free of pedestrians then a nominal permit is required.

Aside from the squares, there’s many historic buildings that double as wedding venues. Here’s a list of the best places to elope in Savannah. If you’re looking to elope in Savannah, contact me today!

Pulaski Square

Pulaski Square is probably my favorite squares in Savannah to elope. It’s not far from Forsyth Park and Jones Street, so after you say “I Do” we can easily walk to those places for couples photos. This spot is usually super quiet and more on the private side. It doesn’t seem to get too busy, even on the weekends, making it a perfect spot to get married. Pulaski Square has gorgeous, huge live oaks, four different green spaces and beautiful historic homes surrounding it. Also, the light is usually amazing at any time of day, so we don’t have to wait for golden hour!

The Gastonian Inn

This isn’t a square, but a gorgeous inn right off Forsyth Park! The Gastonian Inn was built in 1868 and was voted as one of the top 50 inns in America because of its location, grand decor and amazing service. You can elope inside in the parlor or outside in their private garden courtyard. You’ll want to book this elopement venue if you like both indoor architecture and classic outdoor Savannah scenery. I love taking photos here because it’s different and beautiful!

Forsyth Park

This one is no-brainer and possibly one of the most popular spots to get engaged, married or elope in Savannah. Forsyth Park is a Savannah staple! This park spans 30 acres, which means there’s so many spots for photos. The famous fountain, lying on the North side of the park, is a favorite destination amongst tourists, so it can get a little busy. Although, when the crowd clears and light hits just right, it’s a gorgeous spot for a Savannah elopement. Aside from the fountain, there’s so much green space, so really any spot around the park is gorgeous.

Bonaventure cemetery

Another non-square Savannah elopement location is Bonaventure Cemetery. It might seem odd eloping in a cemetery, but it’s always a gorgeous option! This cemetery is filled with incredible Savannah history, beautiful live oaks, and unique headstones. If you’re a more edgy-alternative couple, this is the place for you. Halloween and October elopements are very popular in this spot.

Looking for a Reception Space? Consider Vic’s on the River.

One question I always get asked regarding Savannah elopements, is where to have the afterparty. I highly recommend Vic’s on the River. They have a few different reception spaces above the regular dining downstairs. The food and atmosphere is amazing! You also have the best view of the river.
